A FIRE which caused thousands of pounds of damage at a South Tyneside shopping centre was deliberate, police said today.
The blaze was started at the rear of Heron frozen foods at St James’ Mall, Hebburn, at about 4.25pm yesterday.
It damaged four air conditioning units, causing thousands of pounds of damage, and had to be put out by the fire brigade.
No one was injured, but police say they believe the fire was started maliciously.
Anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
