Help X Factor Joe smash his GNR target
HE asked for your votes, now X Factor champ Joe McElderry is asking for your money.
The 19-year-old is taking part in this year's Great North Run to raise cash for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which recently named him as an ambassador and North-East patron.
And after Gazette readers showed their support to earn him the X Factor crown last year, he's hoping they will be equally generous with sponsorship.
Westoe singer Joe has set up an online donations site, where people can pledge their cash and help him hit his 8,000 target.
Within days of the site going online, he has already got more than 1,000.
Former Harton Technology College pupil Joe said: "I will be running the Great North Run, which finishes in my home town of South Shields.
"I run almost every day, and I am looking forward to taking part in the world's biggest half marathon and raising money to develop services and facilities for young people diagnosed with cancer in North East England.
"Teenage Cancer Trust has achieved so much in Newcastle and across the UK. I hope I can help raise awareness and support for such a great cause.
"I really appreciate all the support, and thank everyone for any donations."
Joe will join fellow ambassadors – Skins actor Nicholas Hoult, McFly's Harry Judd and Mighty Boosh comic Noel Fielding – in supporting the charity at a national level.
There are 16 specialist units across the country, including one in Newcastle, which Joe opened in May.
Joe is also giving fans the chance to be part of his official Teenage Cancer Trust cheering squad and help him get past the finishing line.
People can also support the trust by buying a 5 T-shirt or a wristband for 1.
