Home shopping firm's jobs boost

A SOUTH Tyneside on-line and TV shopping company is switching on to more jobs as part of expansion plans.

JML will this week officially launch its new centre at Tyne Dock, South Shields, which already employs 40 staff.

But there are plans to recruit 20 more people by the end of this year, to cope with rising demand.

The new fulfilment and customer services centre has seen staff moving from the former company base in Jarrow.

Shaun Tebble, JML's operation director, said: "Although best known on the high street, we have typically ambitious plans to treble turnover for our TV channels and website.

"We've bought two new TV shopping channels, bringing our total to seven on the Sky platform.

"Consequently, we've moved this part of our business to a bigger building.

"It was important to locate these premises in Tyne Dock, within the Port of Tyne Authority estates.

"It means we can do everything in one place, including docking our seaborne containers, and using the warehousing for the medium and long-term."

JML (John Mills Limited) was founded in 1986 by John Mills, and employs 250 people throughout the UK.

The company's product range includes DIY, kitchen, homecare, car, health and beauty products, which are sold through the JML website, TV channels and major retailers such as Asda, Boots, Debenhams, Makro and Woolworths.

JML enjoyed record sales of 70m last year, and its business has expanded everywhere from North America to the Philippines.

JML's customer service team is also based at the new South Shields centre, which will be officially launched on Thursday.
