Ice queen Susie has Tucker's luck

SOUTH Shields ice queen Susie Lipanova will be skating onto our television screens once again tomorrow night.

The 34-year-old is starring in ITV's Dancing On Ice for the second year running.

This time the mother-of-one will be partnered with former EastEnders and Grange Hill star Todd Carty.

Her husband and fellow skater Andrei Lipanova will be paired with Gemma Bissix, who's also starred in the East End soap and Hollyoaks.

Susie's parents Ann and Jeff Humble, of Westoe, South Shields, will be watching her every move while looking after her son, four-year-old Sasha, during her stay in London.

Mr Humble, 66, a retired teacher, said: "We're hoping she does just as well as last year, if not even better, and the same goes to Andrei.

"We don't know much about Susie's partner, just that he's an actor, so I've no idea what he's going to be like."

Susie was sixth to be voted off last year with her then partner, former Olympic Javelin thrower Steve Backley.

However, there are mixed reviews from the show's mentors, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, about Carty's skating abilities.

Dean said: "Todd is not a natural ice skater or dancer, but being an actor, he brings his own unique character to his performance."

While Torvill added: "He's not found it easy. It's not a natural thing for him, but he's very determined and making steady progress."

In the past year Susie has moved back to South Shields to set up home, and now lives a few streets away from her parents.

Mrs Humble added: "We just hope everyone who watches the show in South Tyneside will get behind her and vote whenever they can."

* Dancing on Ice is on ITV1 tomorrow at 7pm.
