It's the best birthday vet!

TWO South Tyneside veterinary nurses have come of age – in life and in their profession.

Ashleigh Camsey and Joanne Hughes both work at the South Shields branch of Blythman and Partners Veterinary Practice.

And after three years of hard work they are now veterinary nurses, qualifying in the same month they both turned 21.

With 15 pets between them – many of them abandoned or unwanted animals adopted through the practice – the keen animal lovers have found their perfect jobs.

As veterinary nurses they are now qualified to undertake certain minor surgical procedures and assist with x-rays, anaesthetics, surgery and hosting their own puppy parties and weight and geriatric clinics.

Miss Hughes said: "I have worked here for five years, straight from school, and really enjoy my job and the people I work with.

"The practice helps a lot of the members of staff through their training, as it is a recognised Veterinary Nurse Training Centre. The support I have received has been brilliant.

"My favourite part of the job is seeing the previously ill pets go home fit and healthy after treatment, knowing how much we have helped.

Senior Partner, Graham Chambers, said: "The girls have been an asset to the practice and we are thrilled to be with them on the next stage of their career."
