METRO trains between Jarrow and Hebburn were halted for nearly an hour this afternoon after a lorry hit a bridge.
The accident happened at Hill Street, Jarrow, at 1.55pm when an articulated vehicle was in collision with part of the bridge, which supports the main Metro line between South Shields and Newcastle.
A Nexus spokesman said: “Trains had to be halted between Jarrow and Hebburn, so engineers could check the structure of the bridge for damage.
“This was found to be minimal and train services were able to resume after a 50-minute delay.”
A spokesman for Northumbria Police confirmed they had “no reports of any injuries.”
