Josef Craig wins place in Rio Paralympics team

Josef Craig, has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the Paralympic Games in Rio, South America.

The 19-year-old had an anxious wait to see if he would be chosen after he made the qualifying time needed to be in with a chance.

The games in Rio had been the one the teenager had been aspiring to take part in.

However, his talents saw him competing four years earlier in London, where he was catapulted into the spotlight after smashing two world records in the S7 400m freestyle on the way to top of the podium.

He was also the youngest gold medal winner at the games at only 15 years old.

Josef, from Jarrow, who has cerebral palsy, trains with the City of Sunderland Swimming team.

At the games in Rio he will be competing in the S8 category .

The switch comes after the swimming authorities ruled his disability was no longer severe enough to allow him to continue swimming in at S7, and he can now compete with more mobile swimmers.
