Local election: Hello from me, goodbye from him + VIDEO

IT was a case of hello-goodbye on the political merry-go-round in South Tyneside’s local elections.

Labour stalwart Arthur Meeks lost his seat in Jarrow’s Bede ward to Independent Lee Hughes.

The newly-elected Coun Hughes polled 10,55 votes to Mr Meeks’ 818.

Meanwhile, Coun Geraldine Kilgour, for Labour, is a new addition to the Fellgate and Hedworth ward in Jarrow, after beating UKIP’s Steve Harrison.

Coun Kilgour triumphed with a majority of 1,163 votes, to Mr Harrison’s 981.
