Makers can't hold a candle to Jonathan
FELLOW designers struggle to hold a candle to creative Jonathan Ward.
The former Whitburn Comprehensive School pupil has forged a successful business in London, where he has created his own candle fragrance collection.
Now for the first time, people in his home town can wax lyrical about his work.
A selection of his unique candles are now available at Keltic Touch in Dean Road, South Shields, after shop owner Bernie Ford was bowled over by his creations.
Mr Ward said he was delighted his work was now available in his own backyard.
He added: "I started developing this collection three years ago, it has been a journey and a battle striving for perfection, purity and integrity."
Mr Ward said his childhood on Tyneside proved an inspiration for some of his work.
He added: "Each fragrance is a memory from my past: picking blackberries at dusk when I was seven, discovering a 400-year-old cottage in the hills of Florence when exploring Italy, or that special moment at dawn, when the air hangs heavy with crisp dew from the night's rainfall.
"I wanted to share these memories with the world and make them universal."
