A MAN was taken to hospital after falling from the roof of his South Tyneside home.

An ambulance was called to the back lane behind St Vincent Street, in South Shields, where the man was lying on the ground.

A rapid response car and an ambulance arrived at the scene at 2.34am yesterday.

A spokesman said: “A man had fallen from a roof and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with head and torso injuries.”

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “We received a report that a man had fallen from a roof.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment where his condition is not thought to be life-threatening. There is no further police involvement.”
