Man rescued in South Shields cliff drama

EMERGENCY services spent three hours at South Tyneside clifftops last night after reports that a man was threatening to jump.

Police and fire crews from South Shields were called to the cliffs near Marsden Grotto just before 8pm after being told that a man had been spotted beyond the safety fence.

Shortly before 11pm, the man was led away from the cliffs and taken into police custody.
