Masked teen gunman robs garage

POLICE are hunting a teenage gunman who robbed a South Tyneside garage last night.

The youth – wearing a balaclava – burst into Mill Lane Service Station in Hebburn, at 7.38pm, threatened a member of staff with a small handgun and fled with a quantity of cash.

No shots were fired, but the garage worker was left shocked.

The robber is described as being about 16 or 17 years old, around 5ft 4in tall, with blue eyes.

Detective Inspector Chris Sybenga, from South Tyneside Area Command, said: "We would urge anyone who has any information about this raid to get in touch."

"We are carrying out extensive enquiries to find out who was responsible."
