Mayor's cash boost for Boys Brigade

MEMBERS of a South Shields-based Boys Brigade group received a cash boost during a special reception with the Mayor of South Tyneside.

All three sections of the Boys Brigade 15th South Shields Company – Anchor Boys, Junior Section and Company Section – met the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside, Coun John Anglin and his wife Chris, on a visit to South Shields Town Hall.

The Mayor presented the group with a cheque for more than 17,000 from the Youth Opportunity Fund, which will go towards the refurbishment of the group's meeting hall at the Bethesda Free Church in Victoria Road, Laygate.

The Mayor said: "It was lovely to hear about the various activities the Boys Brigade are involved with in the local community."

Company Captain Alan Greener said: "We were delighted to visit the Town Hall, and thrilled with the substantial grant."
