A SOUTH Tyneside Metro station was closed for almost an hour today after workmen caused a burst water pipe.
Chichester station was closed at about 12.20pm due to waterlogging on the concourse on stairs after staff who were working in the station accidentally burst a pipe.
A temporary repair was carried out but the station was closed to passengers on safety grounds while the excess water was mopped up.
Trains continued to run to all destinations, but were not stopping at Chichester Metro station.
A Metro spokesman said: “Chichester Metro station was shut for around 45 minutes due to a burst water pipe.
“The closure of the station was done on safety grounds due to the waterlogged concourse and staircase. The operation of Metro trains was not affected.”
