MP pots cash for hospice

JARROW MP Stephen Hepburn potted a cash prize for St Clare's Hospice.

Mr Hepburn presented a 375 cheque after making it through to the quarter-finals of a pool tournament staged at the House of Commons.

The money was presented to Valerie Maggiore, a fundraiser for the hospice, in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow.

Mr Hepburn, who won the cash in the Parliamentary Annie's Bar tournament, said: "St Clare's Hospice is a highly-valued part of the local community.

"I hope in next year's tournament that I will progress further in the competition – and raise more money for charity in the process."

The hospice has annual running costs of more than 1m and constant fundraising is essential for the care of patients with life-threatening illnesses.
