PARKING problems in Whiteleas have led to new bays being installed to ease concerns.
Soane Gardens is the latest area to be earmarked for lay-bys in a bid to alleviate the issues of people having no-where to leave their cars.
The work, set to start in the next few weeks, is being funded by a grant from the West Shields Community Area Forum.
Coun Bill Brady, a Labour representative for Whiteleas, said: “We have had problems for a long time in this area and people have been asking if we could do something to help alleviate the problems.
“We have managed to secure funding for two lay-bys, which will accommodate three cars each.
“Hopefully, this will go a long way to helping to ease the problems experienced by residents and their visitors.”
In the past, Coun Brady says it was not uncommon for people to double park on the road, causing obstructions for other traffic.
The lay-bys come after parking bays were installed outside bungalows in Whiteleas Way, where residents also raised concerns over having nowhere to park their vehicles outside their homes.
Coun Brady added: “Where concerns are raised to us we do what we can to try and come up with a solution to benefit all residents.”
