REPORTS were emerging on Twitter of Newcastle United fans being attacked by Metalist Kharkiv fans before tonight’s Europa League game in the Ukraine.

They are unconfirmed at present, but Andy Powell (@andy5powell) tweeted: “Loads of trouble before the game. Metallist charging Newcastle fans. Police letting them do it #nufc.

And Craig Grieve (‏@craiggrieve4) tweeted: “No police escort for #nufc fans in ukraine! Shockin! There “ultras” knickin our flag and ambushin innocent fans!! Stay safe #nufc lads.”

Anthony Trotter (‏@Trotts01) said: “Couple off to hospital here carnage post game could be interesting after they’ve had 20 mins to mobilise #nufc #kharkiv.”

* Do you know anyone who’s followed Newcastle to the Ukraine? Have they told you of any trouble? E-mail gazette.sport@northeast-press.co.uk or tweet @shieldsgazette and tell us about it.
