THE family of a four-year-old girl left fighting for her life after a road accident have been told the next 24 hours are crucial.
The youngster suffered serious head injuries in the five-vehicle smash on Leam Lane, Jarrow, at 6.30pm on Tuesday.
She remains in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Since the news broke, dozens of people have left messages on the Gazette’s Facebook page wishing the girl a speedy recovery.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have seen what happened.
