1) Peanut butter, bacon and banana

Sometimes referred to as the 'Elvis' sandwich, such was his love of the snack, the trio of fillings combines sweet with salty. It was reported in 1976 that The King took his private jet in America from Graceland to Denver and back again because he was craving the calorific treat.

2) Cottage pie

A pie in a sandwich? Yes, but why wait for your evening meal when you can lump a slice of thick bread either side and have it for lunch! You can even have an extra piece of bread to mop up the juices afterwards!

3) Pot Noodle

Popular with students, this simple sandwich makes getting those last noodles out of the bottom of

the pot a thing of the past. Some have even gone a step further and grilled the sandwich with

cheese to create a tasty toastie.

4) Lemon curd

One for those who love a bit of tang on their tastebuds, lemon curd sandwiches provide a quick

and easy snack that can be made in seconds. There is even a Facebook appreciation group

online in honour of the two slice delicacy.

5) Yorkshire pudding and gravy

Once served in a carvery restaurant in Peterborough, the Yorkshire pudding and gravy filling was

aimed at children who did not want to mess with the peas and broccoli around their plate. And

along with a piece of meat or another slice of bread to mop up, it can keep the kids quiet for a

while at the table.

6) Sugar

Bread, butter, sugar. Nothing more, nothing less. Supposedly less in calories than a doughnut, this sandwich can have a number of twists, with cinnamon sugar or whole grain bread two popular alternatives.

7) The 'Lasandwich'

Created by Tesco in a 'limitededition' range back in 2010, the lasagnafilled sandwich, or 'lasandwich' as it was quickly named, brought a taste of Italy into two slices of bread.

It was described by the company in the following press release: "Between two thick slices of white bread, you'll find a generous filling of diced beef in a tangy tomato and herb sauce, layered with cooked pasta sheets and finished with a creamy cheddar, ricotta and mayonnaise dressing."

8) Mars Bar

Now you have heard of the fried Mars Bar around Scotland, but the sandwich variety has reached south of the border. Normally melted in a bowl before hand, the chocolate treat is then smothered onto toasted bread. A cafe in Gloucester were reported to be the first place to ever sell the sandwich, with Easter Creme Egg toasties and a Terry's Chocolate Orange with cranberry sauce also planned to be sold as a Christmas special.

9) Potato salad

Last but not least, the sandwich can be a perfect use for that leftover potato salad that nobody ate at the paty and, combined with some cheese, makes for a perfect sandwich in the kids lunch box the following day.
