POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash on a North-East road.
It happened at 5.09am today when a black Renault Clio left the road and crashed on the A692 Lobley Hill road at Byermoor, on the outskirts of Gateshead.
A man in his 30s was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment, where he later died.
A second man was injured in the crash and is being treated for a head injury.
The road was closed this morning to allow for an accident investigation to take place.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle in the area around the time of the crash to contact them as soon as possible.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, ext 69191, and ask for the road safety unit at Etal Lane police station.
The man killed in the crash has yet to be named.
