Opticians focuses on charity work
A SOUTH Tyneside opticians is focused on helping a lifesaving charity.
Andrew Gillies, an optometrist at Specsavers in King Street, South Shields, ran a raffle and handed out goodie bags in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), while glasses were serviced for a small donation.
The store hosted the event as Mr Gillies volunteers with the charity at Sunderland lifeboat station.
Store director Bryan Clark said: "I am delighted we are able to help the RNLI.
"Hopefully our customers will help us raise enough to help."
Peter Mitchell, lifeboat operations manager for Sunderland RNLI, added: "This year the crew has completed 95 launches and rescued 90 people.
"We are grateful to Specsavers and the community for their support."
