Pamela's sexy new keep-fit class
FORTY-one-year-old Pamela Hope has a body which would make your average 20-something weep.
Muscled and slim, Pamela also has the ability to hang upside down from a metal pole looking totally unfazed and she even manages to pull off glamorous without any effort.
Pamela from South Shields, who now lives in Hebburn, runs North East Events, which organises corporate events, stag and hen nights, and pole dancing classes.
She said: "I started taking classes two years ago and I just really took to it so I decided to start teaching.
"I've been a personal assistant for many, many years so I'm good at getting things really organised.
"We start newcomers off with basic moves so they can slowly build their upper body strength.
"It's a very good workout, and fun too."
Pamela's expertise will also be getting a workout at Beach pub in Ocean Road, South Shields.
She has been asked to help judge a pole dancing competition for the next few weeks – and it starts tonight.
She added: "I will have to chose the best two dancers for the next four Thursdays and then they will go to the final.
"It's great to be asked to do something like this."
Pamela runs pole dancing sessions all over the region.
The 90-minute sessions are run by experienced instructors – fantastic for fitness as well as giving your self-confidence a massive boost.
Borough classes take place at Vogue in Anderson Street, South Shields.
Classes for beginners are on Thursdays, and the next beginner's course starts Thursday, March 6, at 7pm.
She added: "It's best if people come along with bare arms and bare legs, wearing short shorts and a sleeveless top. That way they can grip the pole properly.
"The girls in my classes get on really well and see each other socially.
"There was one time when we went out and Sam Huston, one of the former contestants from Big Brother, was challenging girls to come and have a pole dance-off in one of the nightclubs. I went along with two of my pupils and they wiped the floor with her."
The Sunderland class – held at LiquidDiva, Green Terrace, Sunderland – is taught by Nikki Cobb, a self-confessed wallflower who blossomed when she began to take classes with Pamela.
Nikki, 28, who lives in South Shields and works for South Tyneside Council, said: "I was really stuck within myself but pole dancing has boosted my confidence.
"I've come out of my shell now and if I see a pole in a night club I'm on it! Eighteen months ago I would never have done that."
Over the past year and a half Nikki has shed three stone and danced her way into a dress size 10.
She added: "I still eat what I like. It's something I really enjoy. You can use it as exercise and to put together dance routines and it's just really good fun. All my family are joining the classes now."
