The 58-year-old victim had parked her mobility scooter outside Betfred, Ellison Street, at 11.30am when the theft happened on Sunday.

Thieves stole the woman’s shopping bag, which she had left on the scooter, containing her purse which had in it a quantity of cash.

Police are investigating the theft and are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed it.

If anyone saw anything, or has any information, they can contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 602, 30/03/14, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

As part of Operation Soundwave, police are urging people to follow crime prevention advice to prevent them becoming a victim of thieves.

Bags should never be left unattended, even for a short period of time, as this is providing an opportunity for a passing thief who will take seconds to make off with it or its contents.
