Police hunt Sunderland-Newcastle derby hooligans

POLICE today appealed for help to catch four suspected football hooligans.

The men are wanted in connection with a number of public order incidents at the Sunderland v Newcastle United derby earlier this season.

Officers are asking members of the public for help to identify the men, who were involved in incidents outside the Stadium of Light and in Sunderland city centre on November 10 last year.

Police made a number of arrests on the day of the match, but they now need to trace several men.

Detective Constable Iain Saville, who is leading the investigation, said: "We have gathered together a great deal of intelligence on active football hooligans with the aim of ensuring matches remain safe and enjoyable for the vast majority of law-abiding fans.

"The release of these images is a timely reminder that Northumbria Police will not tolerate football hooliganism.

"The small minority of troublemakers who are intent on causing trouble and who bring the game into disrepute will be actively pursued and brought to justice, even though they have not been arrested at the time of their offence."

Anyone who recognises any of these men is asked to contact the police at Sunderland CID on 08456 043043, ext 66445, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
