THE swimming pool at South Tyneside’s new £16m leisure centre will be closed on Sunday.
Haven Point, on South Shields seafront, will be the venue for youngsters from across the region at a major swimming gala.
South Tyneside Swimming Club is welcoming 17 other teams for the Northumberland and Durham Junior League Final.
There will be no public access to Haven Point’s main pool, sauna or steam room during the day.
However, leisure waters and the teaching pool will remain open as usual.
The event will see more than 700 junior swimmers, between the ages of nine and 12, compete.
Coun Alan Kerr, deputy leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “I want to wish all our youngsters the best of luck. This promises to be a great day for both competitors and spectators. Hosting events such as this is a great way of showcasing our fantastic leisure facilities to the wider region.”
Multi and duo leisure members, who have chosen the swim option as part of their membership, can use any of the other leisure facilities at no additional cost.
Normal operating times will resume on Monday.
