TRANSPORT bosses have fixed a hazardous pavement in South Tyneside hours after an elderly woman tripped and injured her face.
Two unstable paving stones in the tunnel underneath South Shields Metro Station, off King Street, had been causing passers-by to stumble.
On Monday a woman, thought to be in her seventies, fell and smashed her face off the ground at about 10.30am.
South Tyneside Council was made aware of the issue last week, after another pensioner fell in the same spot.
Metro operator Nexus, which owns the land, has now fixed the stones.
A Nexus spokesman said: “If anyone sees any further problems with this paved area then they should report it directly to Nexus.”
