Progressive leader hangs on by 3 votes
AFTER a recount, the leader of South Tyneside's Progressives clung on to his Harton seat by just three votes.
Jim Capstick has been a councillor for more than 40 years, and succeeded in winning the seat back in 2004 despite boundary changes.
Neil Maxwell, a former Labour councillor for Cleadon Park back in the 1990s, was hoping to be the comeback kid after a period in the political wilderness.
But Coun Capstick managed to hang on by the narrowest of margins. The result was the second to be declared, at about 1.15am.
