COMMUNITY-spirited pub bosses in South Tyneside are ready to go the extra mile for a good cause.
The Mile in Mile End Road, South Shields, is serving up vital support for charities by offering free hire of its banqueting suite.
The benevolent scheme –which is now under way – aims to ensure as many pounds go straight to the charities concerned.
Both established charities and individuals who are hosting an event in aid of a worthy cause are welcome to get involved.
Dan Whale, marketing manager for the pub, said: “We had been getting a lot of requests to use The Mile at times when we were already booked for weddings and other social events.
“Our manager, Lesley Cobb, felt that we weren’t doing enough to help charities and thought, why don’t we offer one of our rooms for free?
“We decided to offer free food as well. The idea is that the charities can then give all of the money they make on events straight to their charity.
“We are getting in touch with charities in the area to tell them about the offer. But it is not just for established charities.
“Anyone who is holding an event for a charity can get in touch with us.”
The banqueting suite at The Mile can be hired free of charge, with food supplied for free for guests.
