Already more than 200 people have registered for the event, which will see them take on 1k or 5k courses while being showered from head to toe in vibrant powered paint.

The Rainbow Dash will raise funds for the hospice, in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, which provides palliative care to the people of South Tyneside with life-limiting illnesses.

It is open to people aged six and over, who can dance, run or walk the course, and the paint used is safe and non-toxic.

Senior fundraiser Vanessa Mustard, who is organising this year’s event, is hoping those who want to get involved won’t end up missing out, as spaces are limited.

She said: “The Rainbow Dash has really started to gather momentum with 200 people now registered and more applications coming in every day.

“We do have limitations to how many people we can have at the event and don’t want anyone to miss out.

“ It’s a fun, feel-good, family event and we are planning to create a real party atmosphere.

“We’re very fortunate to be supported by Northumbrian Water who have kindly donated bottle water for the event to keep our runners hydrated. We are also supported by our Colour Station sponsors Fit4less, Peter Johnson Funerals and LS Care. We are delighted to be supported by these local businesses.”

The run will feature colour throwing stations to douse the participants in the powdered paint as they race past.

One station is still available for sponsorship and any interested parties should contact senior fundraiser Sonia Graham on 0191 529 7111 for more information.

Last year more than 350 adults and children too part in the event and in the region of £15,000 was raised for the hospice.

St Clare’s Hospice is also looking for volunteers on the day to assist with registration, throwing the powdered paint, giving out medals and tidying up the site.
