REPAIRS to the sewer network above the new Tyne Tunnel in Jarrow are due to start on Monday.

Northumbrian Water is installing 100m of new pipes to divert the existing sewer network in the park between Ferry Street, Chaytor Street and Commercial Road.

The work is expected to take about 18 weeks to complete.

The children’s play area off Ferry Street will be closed for the duration of the work for safety reasons, and the shared footpath and cycleway will be diverted along Commercial Road to accommodate a temporary site compound in the park.

There will be some traffic changes in Ferry Road at times during the work. Anyone directly affected will be notified in advance of any
access and parking restrictions.

Beatrice Brindley, Northumbrian Water’s project manager for the scheme, said: “We apologise to customers for any inconvenience the work may cause. We are working closely with tunnel operator TT2 and South Tyneside Council to keep disruption to a minimum.”
