Restaurant spices up charity appeal

THINGS were hotting up for a cancer charity.

Customers at Spice 1 Indian restaurant, in South Shields, entered a raffle to win wine, champagne and a trip to Slaley Hall, in Northumberland, and raise cash for Cancer Connections.

The charity has outgrown its base in West Harton Churches Action Station, in Boldon Lane, and is raising cash for a new 350,000 dream home in Harton Lane, South Shields.

Shah Amin, owner of Spice 1, said: "We wanted to give to a local charity, and decided on Cancer Connections.

"We'd be delighted to work with the charity again and help this good cause."

Deborah Roberts, one of the charity's co-founders, said: "It's lovely for Spice 1 to think of us.

"We really appreciate everything coming in from the community."

Cancer Connections holds counselling and complementary therapy sessions for cancer sufferers and carers, as well as a drop in on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm.

Donations to Cancer Connections can be made by calling 456 5081.
