Robin Hood pub set to reopen under new owners

Time was called on the Robin Hood pub, in Roman Road, Jarrow, last October, after a brewery boss was declared bankrupt.

Both the Robin Hood and the Maltings, in Claypath Lane, faced uncertain futures after Jarrow Brewery Limited, run by borough businessman Jess McConnell, lurched into administration last year.

After Mr McConnell was declared bankrupt both pubs ceased trading, with a sign placed in the window of the Robin Hood – next to a picture of the Titanic – confirming the bad news.

The watering hole has remained empty ever since, but now its untapped potential could be realised.

A spokesman for Newcastle-based Sanderson Weatherall, the agents overseeing the sale of the building, said; “The Robin Hood is currently under offer.

“We understand the purchaser is intending to reopen as a public house.”

The spokesman added that no definitive timescale can be placed on when the purchase will be completed.

But drinkers could soon be raising a glass to brighter times.
