SLIDESHOW: Coach’s memories of boxer Dale Lincoln

Waiting for Video...

THESE are some of the golden memories boxing coach Steve Winter shared with tragic Dale Lincoln, the fighter he has described as being “like a son”.

Steve has been left devastated by the death of the talented boxer, who was found at the bottom of cliffs near Marsden Grotto pub at South Shields shortly after 10am on Monday.

Dale had been with Horsley Hill Amateur Boxing Club since he was eight years old and had won several titles. Last year, he became a three-time winner of the Tyne Tees and Wear 57 kilo crown.

Steve said: “I’m close to all the kids at the club, but Dale, hand on heart, was like my surrogate son, and I loved him like one.

“I had Dale all over the country boxing or he’d be there supporting the other lads, he was always a joy to be with.

“Winning that belt for the third time and being able to keep it, was one of his proudest moments.”

As a mark of respect, the boxing club has closed its doors for the week.
