South Shields entertainment store looks set to close again

That’s Entertainment, in King Street, South Shields, was originally due to close its doors in February after failing to reach an agreement with its landlord to extend its business lease.

But staff at the shop, which opened in December 2014 and specialises in selling bargain music CDs and DVDs, were told the following week that an 11th-hour agreement had been reached and their jobs were safe.

Now closing-down signs are once again covering the shop’s frontage.

Staff at the shop said they were unable to make any comments on the signs yesterday, and the Gazette has been unable to get an official comment from the company.

In February Craig Dawson, head of retail, said he was delighted by the support of customers during an uncertain start to the year.

He said: “We are very grateful for the support from our customers, not to mention our excellent store team.”

The store provided a boost for the town centre when it launched 16 months ago, providing ten new jobs, at the town’s former HMV shop.

When it opened, bosses said they were keen to remain at the heart of the town for ‘many years to come’.

A spokesman said at the time: “We’ve been looking to open a store in South Shields for some time now, and were delighted when a suitable opportunity presented itself. South Shields is a busy town and we look forward to trading here for years to come.”
