Successful lessons for parents

DETERMINED parents have gained a new qualification by attending an adult literacy course.

The group of 10, whose children attend Parish Church Primary School, have all completed a 30-week course and gained their OCR Literacy Level two certificate.

They have been attending weekly lessons with an adult tutor on a Tuesday evenings to prepare for a final exam for the course - which is equivalent to a to GCSE grade C plus.

Wendy Purvis, who is hoping to go onto study nursing, said: "I have been told by employers that I needed this qualification as I didn't get the sufficient grades when I left school.

"The course was fun, you didn't feel like you were back in the classroom and it has given me more confidence and qualifications.

"I would urge any parents to complete this or a similar course."
