SUNDERLAND players Jozy Altidore and El-Hadji Ba were caught out by a Newcastle prankster who persuaded them to pose with an “SMB” placard.
Newcastle fans use the initials “SMB” as a shortening for an insult to Sunderland supporters.
Mags fan Kyle Matthews bumped into the pair and asked them to hold up the card and pose for pictures, which he then posted on social networking site Twitter.
He said: “(Altidore) asked: ‘What does it mean?’ I just replied ‘it’s a group for Sunderland fans’ and he said Cool! Haha.”
The prank has been met with a predictably limp response from Sunderland fans.
Sunderland fan Jordan Hall, who uses the Twitter handle @JHallSAFC, was among those who slated what they called a ‘sad’ act.
Newcastle’s Jonas Gutierrez fell for a similar joke, having his picture taken by a Sunderland fan while holding up an FTM sign.
Black Cats fans have pointed out Newcastle have had their own share of problems to be concerned about this season.
