X FACTOR hopeful Joe McElderry is a real class act.
The 18-year-old singing sensation has everyone at his former school and college backing him to win the talent contest.
Joe, from Westoe, South Shields, will perform on the first live show on ITV1 on Saturday, and it's clear staff and students will be voting in their droves to keep him in the competition.
Joe attended Harton Technology College in Lisle Road, South Shields, before joining South Tyneside College to study AS levels, and Newcastle College to study performing arts.
Former headteacher Ken Gibson said the whole school was backing Joe.
He added: "He first came to our notice when he played the lead role of Danny in our production of Grease two years ago.
"You could see then he had huge potential. He has since performed in a number of concerts and has grown in confidence enormously.
"I hope he goes all the way, he thoroughly deserves it. He's a lovely lad and we wish him all the best. The whole school is behind him."
Staff and students at Newcastle College are gearing up to support Joe to win the show, with his classmates donning specially made T-shirts which say 'Joe's Got the X Factor'.
Newcastle College principal Bev Robinson said: "We are absolutely thrilled that Joe has reached the live finals, and have every confidence that he will excel.
"Joe is a talented lad, and his success will no doubt be an inspiration to others."
South Tyneside College staff are also backing Joe.
Senior lecturer Felicity Tolfrey said: "Joe was a great student.
"He studied his AS levels at South Tyneside College, and was a model student.
"I'm very proud to see him following his dream. He is a great singer and a fantastic inspiration to other students in the area.
"South Tyneside College will be supporting him all the way. Good luck Joe!"
