POLICE have confirmed the body found on South Tyneside’s coastline is believed to be that of missing Pauline Whitfield.
The grim discovery was made at lunchtime today on the coast at Marsden, South Shields, by officers searching for the South Shields gran.
She had been missing since she left the Mecca Bingo club, in South Shields, on Thursday at about 9.30pm.
The tragic find came less than 24 hours after the release of CCTV images of the 63-year-old, taken inside the bingo hall hours before she disappeared.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “The body has not yet been formally identified, however, it is believed to be Pauline Whitfield.
“Members of the public are thanked for their assistance.”
