Vet's surgery is in for a Penny!
BOSSES at a vet's practice trawled through hundreds of applications for a receptionist vacancy – until the Penny dropped!
When the Hebburn branch of Blythman and Partners advertised for the job it was inundated with more than 200 applications from across the region.
But after sifting through the names and holding a series of interviews, South Shields mum Penny Todner, 39, was offered the job.
Mrs Todner, who was previously a full-time mother to her four-year-old son Nathan, has no pets, but is keen to adopt a new furry addition to her family in the near future.
She said: "I was already aware of the South Shields branch and the good reputation it has, so when I spotted the advert I jumped at the chance.
"I started working at Hebburn a couple of weeks ago, and haven't looked back.
"I love everything about the job, from the staff to the different variety of animals which come in.
"It's a lovely, smaller branch with a friendly atmosphere, but it also has the benefit of being part of a large practice with eight branches in total, including a 24-hour veterinary hospital, so it's the best of both worlds for clients."
Head veterinary nurse at the Hebburn branch, Tim Jackson, said, "We were overwhelmed with the response from the public for the job position.
"Blythman and Partners is highly regarded in the community, which is evident from the huge amount of applications we received.
"Penny is a great addition to the team, and we knew from her sunny personality when we initially met her that she was ideal for the job."
Tim said: "We are already in full swing with her on-the-job training, which includes learning about pet vaccinations, worming and our popular healthcare plan, as well as staff members reiterating the importance of stressing to owners how crucial pet insurance can be."
