A NEW £3m health centre was officially declared opened by royalty today.

The Princess Royal was taken on a guided tour of Marsden Road Health and Wellbeing Centre in South Shields before unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

On arrival, Her Royal Highness was greeted by Andrew Watts, executive Director of Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle (STAN) and Dr Matthew Walmsley, GP Partner at Marsden Health Centre, before being escorted around the newly refurbished GP surgery and range of community facilities.

Dr Walmsley said: “It’s been such an honour to have the princes here today to officially open our new centre.”
