Woman taken to hospital after crash on A19 near Jarrow

CRASH SCENE ... emergency services clear up after the accident on the A19 near Jarrow.

CRASH SCENE ... emergency services clear up after the accident on the A19 near Jarrow.

A WOMAN was taken to hospital this afternoon after a crash on one of South Tyneside’s main roads.

The smash on the A19’s northbound carriageway, near the turnoff at Lindisfarne roundabout, happened at about 2pm.

Emergency services were scrambled to the road and have closed off the outside lane to deal with the crash - which involved a Citroen Picasso.

It is thought it collided with a lorry which caused it to spin into the central reservation.

The driver was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital as a precaution.

A police spokesman said her injuries were not serious.
