Woman's animal cruelty video

A CRUEL woman filmed herself drop-kicking a defenceless kitten like a rugby ball, before she sent the video to friends.

Nicola Collinson, 21, targeted the young cat after it wandered over to her in a street.

In the mobile phone video, she picks up the black and white cat before throwing it in the air and kicking it as if it were a rugby ball.

And when the kitten tries to escape, she chases after it, bringing it back for yet more torture.

After making the film, boasting Collinson sent the clip by mobile phone to several of her friends.

She was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal after the video was eventually forwarded to the RSPCA.

Collinson, of Parkside Avenue, in Winlaton, Gateshead, said she was drunk at the time of filming and pleaded guilty to the offence at Gosforth Magistrates' Court.

Clive McKeag, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said: "This is what can only be described as a quite wicked case.

"This defendant took hold of the kitten and drop-kicked it, almost like a rugby ball.

"The kitten got up and went away and it was chased by the defendant who picked it up again and brought it back and did the same thing again.

"Not only was it drop-kicked, but it was physically punched.

"It was absolutely deliberate, and what makes this all the worse is that someone was making a video on a phone camera. You hear laughing and joking.

Magistrates adjourned the case for three weeks to allow pre-sentence reports to be prepared.

The chairman of the bench said: "It is appalling any human can do such a thing to an animal. No excuses can be accepted."
