The Good Friday fish and chip tradition was alive and well in South Tyneside as hundreds queued outside the borough's

At Colmans fish and chip shop, in Ocean Road, people queued for over an hour for the Good Friday treat.

Tracey Johnson, 49, from Marsden, said: “I haven’t been in ages but they’re the best fish and chips around.”

Geri and Tony Burton travelled from Darlington for their meal.

Geri, 43, said: “Someone recommended them. I hope they’re worth the wait.”
