THe Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside are hoping local businesses will help them tee-off a fundraising success.
Coun Ernest Gibson and Patricia Ridley are calling on teams and sponsors to take part in a golf tournament in aid of the Mayor’s charity fund.
This year, the couple are fundraising for good causes including Cancer Connections, St Clare’s Hospice, Great North Air Ambulance and Cystic Fibrosis Fund.
Coun Gibson said: “The charity golf event promises to be a great day. It could be used as an afternoon out for the family, a contest for competitive friends or even a team building exercise for local businesses all in the name of charity!”
The event will take place at South Shields Golf Club, off Lizard Lane, on Thursday, May 8. Players are asked to meet at 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
The cost of submitting a team (with a maximum of four people) is £100 and includes a meal, with prizes for the first three highest ranked teams and other smaller prizes up for grabs.
Businesses can also show their support by sponsoring one of the 18 holes for £50.
Coun Peter Boyack, who is helping to organise the annual event, said: “It would be wonderful to think that local businesses could embrace the fun tournament to either submit a team or to sponsor one of the course holes.
“The golf event always captures people’s imagination and I hope this year’s Mayor’s charity showcase will be the same.”
