A GP practice in South Tyneside which patients say always goes the extra mile for them has been recognised for its efforts with a Best of Health Award nomination.

Ravensworth Surgery, based in Horsley Hill Road, South Shields, has been nominated for a GP of the Year Award in the annual awards which aim to honour outstanding individuals in the health profession.

For the first time this year the awards are being held jointly across South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Practice manager Irene McConnachie, was delighted with the nomination and said the practice has around 5,600 patients across two sites, the one on South Shields and another in Jarrow.

Ms McConnachie, who has been at the practice for around 25 years, said: “I am very pleased the practice has been nominated.
“We do provide a good service which always has the patients at its heart.

“We have two sites, one in South Shields and one in Jarrow and our staff work across both sites.

“It would be great to win the award, but it is just as nice to be nominated and recognised for what we do.”

She added: “We have a great set of patients of all ages and always go the extra mile for them.”

Sponsors for this year’s awards are South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust, City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, mydentist, NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group and the Quality Hotel Boldon.

There are a range of categories for people to choose to nominate someone for and once the nominations are in, a shortlist will be drawn up.

Finalists will then be invited to a finale at the Quality Hotel, in Boldon, on Thursday, April 27.

There are lots of categories to choose from, so there’s no excuse not to put your own health hero in the running for honours.

Remember to include the category you are putting your nominated cause into.
