Commuters were thrown into chaos this morning as train faults during rush hour caused some services to be suspended.
Metro bosses have said that seven of the 12 early morning peak time trains running in the busiest area of the system between Pelaw, Monkseaton and Regent Centre, did not run this morning as a result of the faults.
The train faults occurred at the Metro Depot which meant the trains were unable to enter service and only five peak time services were able to operate as usual.
Core Metro services ran as usual, meaning trains between Pelaw and South Shields were not affected, although passengers saw their trains were lot busier after it reached Pelaw.
A Metro spokesman said: “Some peak time Metro services were cancelled on Friday morning due to a number of trains developing faults.
“Core services were unaffected and trains continued to operate to all destinations. We are sorry if any customers were inconvenienced.”
