SOUTH Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck has become a new patron of a carers’ support group in the town.
She has taken over the role with Just-ICE (Independent Carers Enterprise), based in St Simon’s Community Project in Wenlock Road.
It is an independent service made up of people who care for their loved ones who are suffering from mental health difficulties.
The service provides effective tiered support, information, guidance, signposting and navigation of services to family members because the service understands that for carers to continue in their role they also need to be supported.
Founded in 2011, it has to date supported 45 families.
Mrs Lewell-Buck said “It takes incredible strength and selflessness to be a carer and to support a friend or loved one, but the stress and isolation of caring means carers themselves often need support.
“Just-ICE recognises that, they do great work bringing carers in South Tyneside together and providing help and advice. I am honoured to be their patron, and will do everything I can to support their work.”
