PEOPLE are being invited to go up in the world this weekend to improve their fitness at a new South Tyneside centre.
On Sunday, the recently launched Attic Studios, in the Viking Centre, Jarrow, will throw open its doors to the public for a free open day, between 10am and 3pm.
Owned by well-known local dance teacher, Karen Whitfield, the fitness studio is the base for numerous classes over two floors.
She said: “We are having the free open day on Sunday to allow the general public to try our fitness classes.
“This will enable people to sample what we have to offer and to see what is suited to them.
“All of our instructors and coaches will be available at our open day to answer any questions regarding any of our classes and also for advice regarding fitness classes.
“Our main focus is on providing high quality tuition in all aspects of fitness and the arts.” Classes at the new Jarrow centre include everything from boxerfit to circuits and zumba.
Mrs Whitfield, 35, from Fellgate, Jarrow, has run the McKenzie School of Dance in Jarrow for many years.
But she always wanted a permanent base and her dream came true when an empty unit became available in the town’s Viking Centre.
A dancer since the age of two, it took Mrs Whitfield several years to find the right location for Attic Studios.
Now the complex is a venue for both her dance classes and karate, baby yoga, sensory play and a wide range of fitness classes for both young and old.
The two-studio venue recently held its first summer dance school and Mrs Whitfield is delighted her dancers have “a place they can call their own.”
But the emphasis is on fitness this Sunday and people of all ages are welcome to go along to Attic Studios, at 4A Viking Centre, just off Grange Road, Jarrow.
