A NIGHTCLUB reveller who found himself trapped in a lift was rescued by firefighters.

A crew from South Shields fire station were called to Dusk nightclub in Mile End Road, South Shields, at 2am yesterday, after the man dialled 999 for help from his mobile phone.

He had stumbled into the lift and was travelling between floors when he leaned against the emergency button, which triggered the lift to stop.

Firefighters managed to talk the man, who suffers from claustrophobia, through how to release the emergency button before powering the lift back up.

The man, who had been drinking, was left shaken by his ordeal.
