SOUTH Tyneside ski star Amanda Lightfoot is gunning for glory after setting off on her Olympic debut.
The former St Wilfrid’s RC Primary School is taking part in the energy-sapping biathlon competition, which combines cross country skiing skills with shooting prowess.
A top 60 performance will earn her a place in Tuesday’s 10km pursuit, where she will have to take aim in four bouts of shooting as well as complete a longer course.
The talented 27-year-old will complete her Winter Olympic dream with in the 15km individual race on Friday.
Amanda, who only took up the unique sport while serving with the army in iraq, has been making the most of her Russian adventure.
She tweeted after Friday’s Opening Ceremony: “Wow!!! What an opening ceremony and the best moment of my life so far.
“Walking on that stage in front of thousands of people .
“So proud to be representing Team GB !!!”
